Latest news on VL Live registration

We have made lots of progress this week towards fixing the registration problems that have caused you all so much frustration since you installed VL Live. We had hoped to fix it by last night in time for this morning but we weren’t quite ready and we need to finish our testing today.

Please bear with us until after the weekend. We will let you know as soon as it’s working and if you want to try to register during the next few days, please do so, but you’ll probably find it easier to wait until we let you know it’s working.

Please accept our appologies once again for the inconvenience caused.

Andrew, thankyou for this information. It is very helpful to know what is happening.

  2. Rosemary Horwood says:

Having suffered a frustrating few days I am happy to say the programme has now loaded and is in use. Thanks to Andrew for his helpful advice at CRE, Sandown. It is good to get this regular info which saves wasting more time.

  3. Judith Stote says:

Apart from the registration problem that I reported and know is being dealt with, the help facility isn’t working. I did have problems loading the VL4 upgrade – message said couldn’t locate D\:DOTNETFX. I have managed to overcome that problem but wonder if it’s a similar problem that’s affecting the help facility?

  4. Fr. Malcolm Jones says:

Similar problems to Judith Stote about DOTNETFX. I amanged to load it manually but I am also having some problems with the programme which seems to have a mind of its own. Trying to register on-line is a waste of time at the moment and I resorted to the “old fashioned fax”. However instead of a telephone number it displayed the password!

  5. David Felix says:

Any advice on how to use Saints On Earth? I’ve just upgraded and even reloaded but with no success

  6. One thing I’ve noticed immediately is that VL Live will not mesh with ‘Saints On Earth’ – companion to CW, which did work perfectly well with VL4. Disappointing.

  7. Anne Bingham says:

25/5 No Help facility. Unable to register – would like to register additioal users.

When seleting readings etc to cut and paste into our weekly pew sheet the selected readings do not have the source (eg Acts 2.1-21) in the editable box and it is imposible to cut and paste from the title bar above.

Also it is imposible to use key strokes or windows conventions (eg cont+A for select all ) or alt keys for selecting items. It would appear that one MUST use the mouse. Do you realise this can infringe the disability access laws as not every on can use a mouse!

  8. Anne Bingham says:

I have now found my way around some of my last comments but I still need touse the mouse to highlight text to be copied

  9. Clare Garrett says:

I was installing VLL for the first time – I had a similar message that it couldn’t local D\:dotnetfx. I seem to have fixed that by extracting it from one file to another – haven’t a clue which. I seem to have a similar problem with the help facility and I can’t seem to register as it won’t except the number. I assume the number is the one on the plastic CD cover.

  10. John Knowles says:

I had a problem too with DOTNETFX. The installation program was looking for \FILES\ DOTNETFX.EXE whereas it is in asub folder ie it should be looking for \FILES\DOTNETFX\DOTNETFX.EXE

  11. Lynn Grove says:

I’m going on retreat for 10 days. We want to have a group licence, but as I still can’t register, is it ok to load the programme on to the other computers we need to have it on in adavance of registration & licence purchase?

  12. John Stickland says:

I am not a blog man so am finding my way….
We have the same problem with installation of VL as John Knowles (May 28th 07). The path for DOTNETFX.EXE is incorrect. Is there an easy solution or bug fix?
    Thanks
    John

  13. Tim Irvine says:

I was unable to register VL Live on Monday afternoon (28th May) will you please let me know when registration will be possible. My error message was that my registration code was unrecognised.

  14. development says:

The path for DOTNETFX.EXE is incorrect. Is there an easy solution or bug fix?

Yes, the solution is to exit the VL setup and run dotnetfx.exe directly from the CD. Let the .NET setup complete, then run the VL setup.

I’m not clear what context you mean. If this is within a service, or one of the “Collects readings and other propers” services, then you can select with the mouse in the full text area. If you come across a service where the reference does not show, you can fix this by editing the properties of the service item.

I agree the keyboard access should be improved and this is under review.

  16. Revd David Powell says:

Felt very frustrated when I could not get the programme to load, but thanks to help from Imogen via email it is now loaded.

  17. Revd Geoffrey Clement says:

Don’t want to be funny, but did no one at VL bother to take the CD home and try it out before putting it on the market? Might have saved the punters a lot of heart ache.

  18. Anne Bingham says:

To explainb my previous query which seemed to puzzle you. I need to cut and pastte collects and readings into a “Pew Sheet” every week which includes the source / title of the passage. If I use the Calender event list and bring up the text of the reading for the day, I can cut and paste but without the source which I would have to put in seperately. An easier way I have found is to create a service using these collects and readings ( which does have the sources) and then cut and paste from there.

  19. Paul Jones says:

I have just finished installing this piece of software on behalf of my mother and I have to say what a shocking amount of money for such a poorly designed and operational piece of software. I am a computing graduand and if I had written software and left it in this state I would have failed. I managed to work out the dotnet pointer issue just before coming here to find out why the software wouldnt register but neither issue should have been left in a supposadly finished piece of software. Why isn’t this open source??

  20. development says:

    > Any advice on how to use Saints On Earth?

Unfortunately the setup for Saints on Earth was tied to VL4. It’s something we’re looking into and I hope to provide a solution soon.

Yes, that is the best strategy for this.

I am trying to register, it has told me twice I am registering the wrong number. If it i the number on CD case as I am told then I am entering details correctly. Why won’t it recognise my numbers?

You will need to contact Church House Publishing about this, either email or telephone.

  24. Rev Sue Davies says:

I have two computers in my study – laptop and standalone linked in a network. I need VL on both as I regularly swap between the two. Do I need an additional license for this having just paid £125 for the full version. I have read the agreement and can see that I might have to but when the programme is exclusively used by me it might just be a little unfair.

PS what do you put in the box marked ; Website

  25. development says:

    Sue,

I have answered your query on another thread, but for the benefit of any others, you are OK to install on 2 computers for your own use.
