About

What is Visual Liturgy?

Visual Liturgy is a software package that enables you to plan and prepare liturgy and worship services.

The Visual Liturgy project is run by Church House Publishing on behalf of the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England. Unsurprisingly, therefore, the main editions of Visual Liturgy are usually for the Church of England.

Visual Liturgy 4.0, the current version, contains all of the Common Worship material published in November 2000 including both texts and the Common Worship three-year lectionary (as published in the printed Common Worship). It also includes New Patterns for Worship, which was published in November 2002. A new edition, Visual Liturgy Live, is planned for the Autumn of 2006.

As well as the Anglican editions, there is also an edition for The Methodist Worship Book as well as a number of add-on modules to complement the main editions. You can find out more about the different editions and modules in the VLography section of this web site.

Put simply, Visual Liturgy as a software package, allows you to specify a calendar date and a type of service. The software then identifies what the date is in the church year, finds the right readings, the collect and other items, and displays the complete service.

To find out more about how the software works, have a look at the Software demo section of this web site.
