Mothering Sunday and Daily Prayer updates

Sunday 30th March has two sets of readings and prayers available, one for the 4th Sunday in Lent and the other for Mothering Sunday. Visual Liturgy was not showing the Mothering Sunday option. We have fixed this in an update to the Calendar which you can obtain through Online Update.

This update also adds Daily Prayer readings and psalms to the end of 2014. However, an update to our Daily Prayer service templates is also needed to take full advantage, and this will be available shortly.

Finally, note that the training day previously scheduled for 8 May will now take place on 11 June.

Major update to Visual Liturgy

A major update to Visual Liturgy is now available to our current subscribers. All Scripture readings represented before by just a Bible reference are now available in full text NRSV.

We also have complete texts for Psalms in the Common Worship version. We have added the ability to use the Additional Collect, which is an authorized shorter collect for the day, by default in services. Additionally, there are many improvements to Daily Prayer, so you can easily use a Daily Office. The lectionary is updated for Daily Prayer for 2014 and Sundays to the end of 2015.

The software should automatically inform you about this update, but you can access it manually using the Edit/Online update function within VL Live.

Common Worship: A Pastoral Ministry Companion – content now in VL Live

One of the most common tasks undertaken by all clergy is ministry to the sick and to the bereaved. Containing the essentials for pastoral ministry in the community, Common Worship: A Pastoral Ministry Companion brings together services, prayers and readings for the most frequently encountered pastoral occasions in a portable, easy-reference volume. Alongside the book and Kindle ebook versions published this month, a new VL module can now be downloaded by anyone with an active subscription. It includes liturgies, prayers and readings for:

  • Emergency baptism
  • Prayers for the sick and their families
  • Holy Communion at home or in hospital
  • Reconciliation services (not present in previous Pastoral Services or Ministry to the Sick volumes)
  • Prayers with the dying and at the time of a death
  • Prayers for use at home before and after a funeral
  • Passages of Scripture and Psalms in both modern and Prayer Book versions.

Newly Authorized Additional Eucharistic Prayers now in VL Live

In July 2012 the General Synod gave final approval to two new Eucharistic Prayers for use when a significant number of children are present or when it is otherwise pastorally appropriate to meet the needs of children present.

Subscribers to Visual Liturgy can now download an update featuring the two texts along with new guidance on celebrating the Eucharist with children prepared by the Liturgical Commission and the first of several planned example services prepared exclusively for V L Live subscribers. The two prayers are authorized for use from 1 September 2012 and can be downloaded by active subscribers using the Online Updates feature.

Once installed, you can access the material in several ways:

1. In a service of Holy Communion, such as Holy Communion Order One, select the Detail view. Then click the start button in the service list, for the item The Eucharastic Prayer. The two new choices are Prayer One and Prayer Two. Select the prayer you want and click OK.

2. On the Visual Liturgy Home screen, scroll down to Additional Eucharistic Prayers. Here you will find the new Eucharistic Prayers as standalone items. You can also open the Introduction and Guidance which explains the purpose and usage of the new material. Finally, there is an example service called Simple Celebration of Holy Communion.

3. The new Prayer One includes an optional response at several points, either Holy Holy Holy or Amen Amen Amen. If you do not want to use these reponses, click on the tick box by one of the responses in the service list. They are set so that if you untick one, all are unticked. The final Amen should always be included.
