Visual Liturgy Live progress report

As I said last week, we’re in the final stages of testing Visual Liturgy Live, and our development team now have the Release Candidate ready. That’s the version of the code that is a “candidate for release;” in other words we put this version through its final exams and then allow it through to the release process, which culminates in the pressing and packaging of CD-ROMs. At this stage we wouldn’t expect to find any major problems that would stop the show.

The work that’s been going on since Friday last week is in three parts: adding content to the pages of www.visualliturgylive.net, testing the subscription and registration services, and preparing the database to be pressed onto the CD-Rom with the software.

Many of you know that Church House Publishing relies on a lot of expert help in the user community, much of it from volunteers. We’re fortunate to have a team of people who are both technically and liturgically literate. A number of these people have made invaluable contributions to VL Live, editing content as diverse as hymn indices, seasonal material from new Common Worship publications, and the lectionary database held within VL Live. It’s this diverse content from numerous sources that we’re pulling together into one database, which is being checked and tested before we release it.

After release, we’ll be publishing a lot of material about how to use features like Smart Templates effectively, and those of you with an inclination to get under the hood of VL Live may well see and learn more about how that data hangs together if you follow some of our examples later in the year.

I’ll keep you up-to-date with our testing progress as the week goes on…

  1. The Revd Anne Smith says:

When will be the release date of Visual Liturgy Live, please?

  2. I am keen on signing up to Visual liturgy live and would like to know when it is available and how much cheaper it is to sign up as a group of churches.

  3. Alan J Price says:

Will current users be notified of the actual launch, so we can be offered the chance to subscribe?

  4. Marc Winchester says:

I ordered a copy of Vislit Live back in November, when is it going to be issued? and do I need to place another order, or will be November order finally be honoured?

  5. Dave Jackson says:

No news yet from the Vis Lit people!

A reminder that on March 20th the following was said:

“I’ll keep you up-to-date with our testing progress as the week goes on…

    Since then SILENCE!

Has the time now come to complain about this to General Synod members and ask for a question to be raise at Synod about the dreadful communication about progress? We all know there can be delays – but it takes less than five minutes to send out a message explaining the state of progress…

  6. Paul R M says:

    I agree with Dave Jackson
    SILENCE
Will Vis Lit Live be like Windows Vista, delayed, delayed, and delivered years late.

I’d suggest you contact CHP directly for details of specific orders.

By the way, I found that this blog had not been moderated for some time, and inevitably a large amount of spam was clogging up the moderation queue. In clearing this I believe a couple of messages got deleted by mistake, one of which was yours. Apologies, it was not deliberate.
