Since I joined the Church House Publishing team as Assistant New Media Manager last summer I have had the privilege of being part of the Visual Liturgy project team. A growing part of my job has been firstly going to Visual Liturgy training days and then leading them.
These training days and seminars have taken me the length and breadth of the country and I have loved the opportunity to meet the people actually using our product. This week I have met a few of you at the Christian Resources Exhibition in Sandown Park, Esher where I have been running Visual Liturgy seminars all week.
This was my first CRE and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not least because it was set in beautiful countryside and I got to see the inside of the Sandown racecourse’s private boxes! The show kicked off on Tuesday and we have run two VL seminars each day. It was a good opportunity to come and get a mini-tutorial in how to use the programme, ask questions and to find out more information about the new Visual Liturgy Live subscription system coming out later this year.
Each seminar was approximately 45 minutes long, which was just not enough time to show people around the software and we always seemed to run over! I think people can see the need for full day long training days now!
In each session I talked a bit about the history of VL, how and who started it and the changes in version 4 that saw VL took a different shape to previously. I then talked about the new version, Visual Liturgy Live, and explained how the new subscription system was going to work. I also talked about some of the new content that is expected in the new version.
For more info on the subscription system please go to our article on this website. I then demonstrated the software itself and explained some of the features as well as quickly opening, editing and saving a Holy Communion Order One service with a specific date and location.
I received some very positive feedback about the seminars so thank you to all for your encouraging comments and also for coming along and expressing an interest in Visual Liturgy. I look forward to meeting more of you as I travel around the country for more VL training days.
We are always interested in helping dioceses and colleges with training in VL, so if you have the ear of a CME officer or college principal (or are one yourself), please encourage them to get in touch with us. Alternatively, you can find out more information about up and coming training days, by giving us a call or sending an email to visual.liturgy@c-of-e.org.uk.
