Best wishes for the Christmas season, and a tip

First, very best wishes to all Visual Liturgy users for this Christmas Season.

Second, a tip relating to copying and pasting text. A user recently asked how to avoid excessive margins when copying text from Visual Liturgy to a word processor or DTP program.

There are several things you can do. I’m not suggesting you use all of these, but consider them as a set of tools that will enable you to get the best possible result.

First, have a look in Edit – Preferences – Services. Here you can enable or disable certain features of copied text, including Preserve Wide Margin. If your priority is just to get the unadorned text, try unchecking both Preserve Wide Margin and Include Styles in RTF

Second, you can amend this at the template level. Open the template you normally use and select the detail view. From the Service menu, choose Properties, then Styles. Drop down Detail view and select NoWideMargin.css for a service without the wide left margin

Third, you can amend this at the item level. Right-click a reading in the service list, and select Service Item Properties. Select Detail view, then Service Text. Check the option As Block Text to remove all indentation. NB I do not normally recommend this option as it may break important formatting, but it is there if you want to do all the formatting in your desktop publishing software.

If you amend the template, don’t forget to save it with File – Save – As a service template.

We bought the new visual liturgy live in May with a Team licence for Abington Parish church – despite team members attempting to register and log on they have not been recognised and now have have been cut off and time expired. Despite one team member faxing you and writing, no reply. Even as I have tried to download new stuff – it says “no active subscription”. What is the matter with this – it really isn’t value for money. Who do I talk to – where is there a person on the end of a telephone?? Otherwise there’s no earthly reason to renew anything next May.

I’ve replied by email. However, for others viewing this:

    – The first step in troubleshooting is to download and install the latest version. You can do this within VL if you can connect; the “no active subscription” message does not block the update download. If you cannot connect from VL, or it is expired, you can download it here, currently:

    http://www.onlyonline.co.uk/Updates/vl5update1n.zip

Extract the zip and run setup.

    – If you cannot register online, even with the latest version, you will need an unlock code. You should normally get one by calling 020 7898 1451. If that does not work, email me development(at)vislit.com

I have only very recently installed VL Live and see that Common Worship is very completely in it. However, in one of our two churches (the rural one) we still have BCP Matins once a month. Where are the BCP entries in VL?
